Dear Friends and Well-Wishers,
Ranjitha is a divorced single mother with an 11-year-old daughter living at Thodiyoor near Ochira. Her father had some medical conditions that drained out much of the money they had. She is not receiving any money from her ex-husband. She had been doing temporary jobs in Oman as a maid to make a living. Her daughter has a serious medical condition, which is yet to be completely diagnosed. She has been making visits to the Medical College and CMC Vellore as part of the ongoing investigations and treatments. At the moment, her daughter needs frequent blood transfusions to alleviate edema associated with the medical conditions, which relapse every few months. With increasing debt and lack of funds, Ranjitha moved to the only land they had remaining from her father at Thodiyoor. With some local help and support, they are currently living in a small shelter made out of tin sheets. During extreme heat, they often end up sleeping on the porches of their neighbors’ homes. It is challenging with her daughters’ relapses. They have a small shed for storage and a cooking area. They have been applying for funding allocations from various government schemes to build a small dwelling. Especially with her daughter’s condition, she is unable to go for long-term job assignments at this moment.
