Mathai’s medical history reveals a challenging journey marked by a significant health event. At 56 years old, he originally worked as a coolie labourer and faced a critical health episode in November 2020 when he presented to Amrita Hospital with acute aortic dissection and left-sided weakness. In response to this emergency, doctors performed a surgery. Mathai successfully recovered from this surgery and has since been under regular medical follow-up.

Due to his health condition, Mathai received advice to avoid strenuous work, prompting a transition to a less physically demanding role as a supervisor. Despite these changes, he persists in providing for his family, which consists of his wife and son. Notably, two of his daughters are married, and his son follows in his footsteps as a coolie worker. They are living in a small house on a 5-cent.

Recently, due to his back pain , he went to Amrita Hospital for a check-up, an evaluation with a CT scan revealed the dilatation of the aortic arch and descending aorta. As a treatment for this, he has to undergo surgery to replace the arch and descending aorta. It cost approximately 10 lakhs rupees. He is trying to collect money from different sources and his surgery is planned for the 1st week of December.
